DOES IT COST MONEY TO JOIN THE BOY SCOUTS?
Yes. It costs $145.00 per year to belong to the Scouts. This registration fee is extremely competitive when it is compared to the costs to be a member of other activities e.g. hockey. The registration fee works out to be approximately $10.00 per month over the course of one Scouting season which runs from September to September of each year. The fee must be paid in full at the start up of each Scouting season in September. The registration fee covers the cost of insurance. Subsidies are available for families experiencing financial hardships. Please speak with the Section Leader regarding this matter. All Scouting leaders are volunteers and they do not receive a fee for service. Leaders are interviewed, three references are required, and a Police Check is conducted before leaders are permitted to join the groups.

WHAT GROUP IS AFTER SCOUTS?
While you have the option of remaining a Scout until your 16th birthday, at 14 you can choose to become a member of a Venturer company. Venturers, who are typically 14 - 17 years old, are largely responsible for planning and running their own programs and activities. The Venturer Motto, “Challenge”, should give you some idea of the Venturer program’s focus and nature.
As you approach your 14th birthday, contact a local Venturer company and join them in some of their activities. If there is no Venturer company in your area, speak to your Patrol Counsellor about how you and some of your friends might start your own company. For more information about Venturing, take a look at a copy of the Canadian Venturer Handbook.
